Milan is officially one of the best destinations in Europe as listed in the Best Destinations 2016 of Lonely Planet. The city has been nominated as the “best touristic destination” and attracted many tourists in the past years thanks also to international events such as EXPO 2015, which in particular Milanese capital had to satisfy multiple incoming necessities with flexible and articulate offers.
Milan is a playground for creating, developing and experimenting hospitality alternatives, excellent products that are revolutionary in respect to classic hotel offers.
Viaggi di Architettura proposes a unique itinerary to experience and discover Milan’s coolest hotels that are characterized with new concepts, in unusual locations, with peculiar design and decorations.
First stop of our ‘Hotel Design Tour” proposed by Viaggi di Architettura in this Milan Expedition, is the Mandarin Oriental, first of the luxury chain hotels from Hong Kong. Hotel with its four nineteenth-century buildings and two secret courtyards, elegance of the upper class residences revisited with a cosmopolitan look from the forties, is a tribute to Milan. From the lobby with fireplace to the palette of colors of the ceramics signed Fornasetti, selected especially for Restaurant Seta with starry chef Antonio Guide.
The tour continues towards a more luxurious zone, in the heart of Milanese prêt-à-porter, Bulgari Hotel situated on a side street close to famous Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, la Scala and Academy of Brera.
Building from XVIII century has been completed restored by the Citterio & Partners, its minimal interiors take life with precious materials such as black marble of Zimbabwe, Burma teak, white travertine from Navona and Vicenza stone; decorated with furnishings in shades of brown create contrast with large transparent windows that overlook a 4000 m² lush garden.
Next stop in our itinerary is in the centre of the city, few steps from the Duomo and Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. We are talking of Room Mate Giulia, belonging to the Room Mate Hotels chain. An interior-design project of Patricia Urquiola where you perceive fully the original Milanese essence and style with this ironic but welcoming style.
The walk amongst the design hotels in Milano takes us to Zona Tortona, towards Magna Pars, ex-headquarters of a perfume factory which stands out with its sober but elegant look where the fragrance is still the protagonist. Different essences characterise the ambiance where all 28 suites are fully coordinated with the same theme named after perfumes.
The tour takes us to Rosso Segnale, a new concept of B&B. An old house from the beginnings of ‘900, turned into a design B&B: three rooms decorated with refined taste on the first floor and a small art gallery is found at the ground floor.
The roof terrace and a 120 m² garden, gives an elegant twist to the location suitable for aperitifs, reading and music events.
Rosso Segnale occupies an entire building from roof to bottom and offers intimate hospitality but also a perfect meeting place for art and culture initiatives.
Last tap of the “Hotel Design Tour” is the Town@House Street. Here we testimony a perfect example of an urban transformation of unused office space into nuclei of hospitality.
Town House Street is the first realization of the ambitious project of designer Simone Michelli, in collaboration with Alessandro Rosso, has redefined the concept of style of city living and hospitality “on the road”. There are four commercial spaces situated in Via Goldoni 33, transformed into lavish suites accessible directly from the road without passing through a reception. The rooms are characterized by elegant and futuristic furniture that with their vibrant shades of green, yellow and orange colours stand out against the sepia coloured walls.
‘Hotel Design Tour’ of Viaggi di Architettura is an unmissable itinerary for interior designers, architects and those with a passion for architecture.
